The Awakening
Parvardigar Press has another illustrated work
in progress. It is a Sufi story, set in Mughal India, retold by Carl Ernst from
a tale originally told 900 years ago by the famous Persian Sufi master Abu Sa`id
ibn Abi'l-Khayr, and illustrated by Judith Ernst. The paintings, executed in opaque
watercolor in a style evoking the great Mughal miniaturists, reflect the rich
cultural atmosphere of the old city of Lahore, Pakistan. Entitled The Awakening,
the story depicts an impressionistic young man who confidently goes seeking love,
only to find that he is looking in all the wrong places. Its publication date
is not yet set.
